I Am A Creator
For a long time, I kept switching between being an artist and a designer. I think by a lot of societal definitions and also what people are used to calling, those are very different terms and very different careers. However, I see disciplines are merging and there are more and more blurring between the different disciplines. When I’m working on my projects, I see each one is different, however, my approach could be very similar. Therefore, I see these terms as more and more limiting to who I am. I see myself using a lot of artistic expressions in my designs and also seeing design techniques in my art-making. Each could be unique to that particular project, but I am me and I am always using the skills and perspectives that I have to create.
Until today I saw this interview from Alexander Wang where he identifies himself as a creator instead of limiting himself to only fashion designer. I’d love to see myself as a creator moving forward. I love his perspective on creatives. Essentially we are creators, we put different ingredients, add our flavors to form different things. I enjoy cooking, art-making, design, and writing. Each of those forms is just using different mediums to express personal flavors. And the person behind each item is the creator, the inventor.
